In order to enhance exchanges, share and connect with Vietnamese student alumni who have been studied and worked at Tohoku University and towards the 115th anniversary of the establishment of TU, the Tohoku University Alumni Association in Vietnam (TUAAV) held the first WEBINAR & TALK online on Saturday morning, June 26, 2021. The event was honored with the participation of Prof. Hitoshi Tanaka and 34 members of TUAAV who are living and working all over the world.
In the introduction of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet, the Chairman of TUAAV, stated the purpose of the meeting with open exchange topics for members to share experiences in life, study, research, etc.
There are many memories and experiences that have been recalled from the beginning (1993-1994) with 3-4 Vietnamese students coming to study and worked in Sendai with many difficulties in life and integration into the new environment (MSc. Le Duy Hung, Dr. Nguyen Hoa Anh, Prof. Phan Ngoc Minh). But, with the efforts of those students along with the kind supports of professors, friends, and local Japanese people, the Vietnamese students have gradually integrated into the new life, research, and achieved success in research. After that period, the number of Vietnamese students studying at Tohoku University increased steadily with groups of university students, exchange students, interns, and doctoral and post-doctoral fellows. Former student generations supported the next student generation to create cohesion in the Vietnamese student community at Tohoku University, in Sendai, which helps new members to have peace of mind and soon integrate into the new environment and new life in TU.
With the excellent results of study and research, some members of the TUAAV were invited by TU to continuously work as researchers or Assistant Professor at TU, such as Dr. Nguyen Hoa Anh, Prof. Dr. Phan Ngoc Minh, Dr. Truong Quang Duc, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Tinh….
The members of TUAAV have developed their abilities and knowledge after studying at Tohoku University to develop their careers in various fields around the world. Through the event, up to one-third of members are working as scientists, lecturers, and researchers in the universities and institutions in Vietnam and other countries, some are working in international companies, some members have established and startup businesses in different fields. Some members have been developing new positions in their careers, holding important positions in their working places in which prominent members can be mentioned such as Prof. Dr. Phan Ngoc Minh, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Dr. Nguyen Hoa Anh, Chairman of LiveSpo global company; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet, Vice President of Thuyloi University; MSc. Dang Tuan Hai, Project Manager of Manila North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Project of Nippon Koei Company, Japan...
In the event, there are many successful experiences in working and researching which have been exchanged to help the young members in TUAAV to develop themselves in the future. This event was very meaningful, which provided a lot of useful information and left a good impression among the members. The members wish to expand the network of participating members in the near future, and soon organize seminars to strengthen academic exchanges between members. TUAAV also agreed that exchange activities and seminars will be held regularly, which helps members keeping the spirit of solidarity and connect to expand the network of TUAAV.
The liaison committee of TUAAV is grateful to all the members who enthusiastically participated in the event. Hope to see you all again as soon as possible!
